Explorer Units are the fourth Section of the Scouting family after Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. Explorer Scouts are young people aged between 14 and 18 years old.
With the support, direction and guidance of Unit leaders, Explorer Scouts are encouraged to lead themselves, design their own programme and work towards the top awards that Scouting offers. With exciting prospects like being a part of camps and expeditions both home and abroad; adventurous activities such as mountain biking, and sailing; Explorers offers fun and adventure for all. Explorers also have the opportunity to be a part of The Young Leaders’ Scheme which develops their leadership skills and sense of responsibility, by helping to run meetings for the younger sections.
Our Explorer Unit currently has around 15 members and meet on a Tuesday night at the Daviot Scout Hut.
Explorers do a wide range of things but by this age range, the emphasis has changed to allow them to play a big part in deciding what they want to do as a Unit. There are no real limits to what can be done – we regularly go camping, do day visits, and even just chill out together round a camp fire!
Explorer Scouts work towards their Queens Scout Award by achieving various badges through participating in a wide range of activities. More information about the Queens Scout Award can be found here.
